Cooking for friends and family can often be a very stressful time even when you are at home. So, when you are out camping a way from the modern conveniences of home like an oven and stove. When you are camping you only have what you can bring with you, such as pots and pans etc and what nature has to offer. Its much easier to cook when you have some easy to follow camping meal recipes When you are cooking outdoors you don’t want to follow involved recipes with loads of different ingredients and different steps. What you are looking for are easy camping recipes which don’t take that long but are filling and taste great.

So, below are five simple camping recipe ideas to prepare that your family and friends are going to love.


If you like seafood, like to grill you will be in your element with these great tasting shrimp skewers. These chipotles marinated shrimp skewers are smoked over the fire and you are able to eat them straight from the fire because they have been skewered. Cooking time is between 5 and 10 minutes Preparation time is 15 minutes up to 30 minutes for marination. This recipe will make 4 servings

Spicy Hot Grilled Shrimp Skewers

Ingredients grilled shrimps

1 tablespoon of extra virgin olive oil
2 tablespoons of lime juice
1 to 2 smoked chili pepper or minced chipotles
1 lb of shrimp medium – uncooked, peeled and de-veined
salt and pepper to taste

Cooking materials

Fire (firewood, charcoal and matches)
Aliminum foil
Grate or bbq
Slider storage bag (ziplock bag)


Start your fire. you don’t want a fire that’s too big unless you enjoy eating shrimps that have been burnt to a crisp. Place all the ingredients into the slider storage bag and seal it. Gently mix the ingredients together and depending on how strong you want the flavor you should leave them to marinate for 30 minutes or so. Skewer the shrimps on the skewers, and ensure they are fully coated in the marinade. Place the grate over the fire. If you are having trouble with getting the grate to stand alone try using some rocks. Put the skewered shrimps on to the grate, cook them for 2 to 3 minutes on each side, using your tongs to turn them The shrimps are ready when they are pink or opaque. Wrap the shrimps in the the foil if you are not eating straightaway as this will keep them warm.


These hash browns topped with loads of vegetables and cheese are both good for you and taste delicious too. A dutch oven is needed for this recipe. If you have one which has had some use it will help to prevent your hash browns from burning. Preparation time – 15 minutes, Cooking time – 15 minutes. Number or servings – 4

Dutch Oven Hash Browns Recipe

Ingredients breakfast camping recipe and more

2 cups chopped spinach
2 – 4 tablespoons of canola oil
1 cup shredded sharp cheddar
3 sliced tomatoes
30 oz frozen hash browns
1 avocado – pitted and sliced
salt and pepper as required


Dutch Oven
Pot holder
Cutting board


Prepare your bed of hot coals. Place the hot coals around the Dutch oven. Make sure it stable and level. You can put a rock beneath the oven so you can put coal under it too. Pour 2 tbsps of canola oil into the Dutch oven and then put in all of the hash browns and stir them until they turn a golden brown color. If they start to stick to the pan add a bit more oil. Next add the salt and pepper for taste. Once they have turned golden brown lavish them with the spinach, tomatoes and cheddar cheese. Put the lid on the Dutch oven until the cheddar cheese has melted. Take the oven out of the coal. Serve the hash browns with an avocado slice.

Skillet Lasagna Recipe

Ingredients: Beef Lasagna - 5 Easy Camping Recipes

2 cups sliced mushroom
1 cup ricotta cheese
6 sheets of no-boil lasagna
1/3rd lb of mozzarella sliced
28 oz of crushed canned tomatoes
1 cup of onions chopped
1 teaspoon red chilli flakes
5 lbs browned ground beef
1 cup of parmesan cheese grated
4 cups of baby spinach
2 cloves minced garlic
4 tablespoons of extra virgin olive oil


Camp Stove
Can opener
Cutting board
Deep skillet


Heat 2 tablespoons of Extra Virgin Olive Oil. Add the mushrooms and saute for 5 minutes. Set them aside. Put in the garlic and onions and cook until the onions become translucent. Then add the chilli flakes and stir in for a few seconds. Next add the beef and cook until browned. Put in the tomatoes and set it aside. Add pepper and salt for taste. Just like a lasagna begin layering the mixture and lasagna. Top it with the meat, mozzarella, ricotta cheese and vegetables and drizzle with the oil


This a favorite with the kids.

Backcountry Jello Recipe

Ingredients: jello drink - 5 camping recipe ideas

1 6 oz flavored gelatin box
4 cups of boiling water


Camp Stove
Heat Proof bottle


Combine the 4 cups of boiling water with the gelatin in your heat proof bottle. Put the lid on and shake the bottle until the gelatin is fully dissolved. You can have half while its warm (cooled) and save the remainder for the next day and have as a jello.


You can spice up your normal camp fire bananas by stuffing them with different ingredients!

Grilled Bananas Recipe

Ingredients bananas - camping meal ideas

4 Unpeeled Bananas
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1/8th teaspoon Salt
4 tablespoons Brown Sugar
4 teaspoons Butter


Aluminum Foil
A Grate
Ziplock bag


Make a cut each banana down their length, but not through to the other side Mix the cinnamon, salt and brown sugar in the slider storage bag. Stuff bananas with 1 teaspoon of butter and the mixture. Wrap the bananas in the foil and place on a hot grate. Grill the banana for 5 to 10 minutes. They are delicious!

    On the lasagna recipe, is there more instruction that got cut off after “Top it with the meat, mozzarella, ricotta cheese and vegetables and drizzle with the oil”? I ask because it didn’t end with a period and I don’t understand how the noodles get cooked since the instructions end with the layering. Maybe I am confused… Any info would help. Thanks again for the camping food ideas!
